And so they shamelessly dance in the blood of the innocent...

The Brady Bunch have decided to again use the horrible Tolley Square (Utah) tragedy as a call to arms for their socialist agenda.

I live about 30 minutes from the Trolley Square mall, and it is situated in one of the MOST liberal parts of Salt Lake City (AKA "Little 'Frisco" in certain circles - for the politics in the area). This is also one of the few malls in Utah that features a "NO GUNS ALLOWED" sign on their doors so I rarely (if ever) frequent the mall. Guess that sign really helped...

What happened was horrible, undeniably - but to call for additional gun restrictions (as the Brady's and the local mayor - Rocky Anderson) is to doom more people to the same fate. You see, the ONLY people stopped by "NO GUNS ALLOWED" signs are the law abiding, the Concealed Carry holders - that could/would have ended the life of the bastard that carried out this heinous crime BEFORE he slaughtered those innocents.

Amazingly, I have heard dozens of times on both radio and local blogs that people are planning to obtain a firearm and concealed carry permit. One older lady on the radio stated (to the best of my recollection) that she hated guns in the past, but considering how long it took the police to show up (by all reports several minutes - and ALOT can happen in a single minute), she now wants to purchase a firearm and carry permit. The "sheeple" are waking up - this is good, but the cost to wake them up, one that should not have been paid.

Sadly, I fear that most will forget this incident within a year, just like the L.A riots, Katrina etc...ad infinitum...

He brings a pistol and a shotgun hidden in a trench coat. This sicko was on a mission of death that no gun restrictions could stop. Where was the mall security? How sad for his victims and their families, including his own.

I sent a letter to each of the senators in the committee working on SB251 this morning, asking them to find a real effort to work on. SB251 is the Uof U's effort to also ban guns completely. Yesterday's tragedy at Trolley Square just proves that lawbreakers will find a way and that one citizen with a concealed legal firearm can bring a halt to a disaster.

It's hard for unarmed mall security to do anything in this case :(

How ignorant of me. I thought Mall security was armed. Sorry.

I've not seen this anywhere else, and I don't vouch for its veracity, but on Schlussel's web site she says that the mall murderer was a Bosnian Muslim. If that's true, you likely will never hear about it via the MSM.

This bit of information bears further investigation by bloggers, and it will have to be done by bloggers, because the media powers that be ain't gonna touch this.

I just visited World Net Daily and they had the story of the Utah mall gunman being a Muslim. We'll see if this fact makes any farther than WND.

I have to admit, when I first heard about the shooting, I wondered where all permit holders where. I was thinking that this could be used as an example against those of us who take our amendment rights seriously.

Then I read this blog. Give me a break! A "No guns allowed" sign at the mall? Does anyone want to guess why the criminal chose to perpetrate his crimes at this particular mall?

It would be great if people started boycotting this mall until they take that stupid sign down.

The last time I was at Trolley, I don't remember the anti-gun signs; they must have put them up since then. We see how well they worked...

The "No Guns" or "No Weapons" signs are usually not very large. They appear to be seals or stickers of some kind - I have seen them at the IHC care centers (hospitals) and a few malls. For a while there were similar signs at the Jordan Commons Megaplex, but I haven't seen them in months, so I'm guessing that someone there chose to remove them.

The unique thing about Utah is that while the company posting the sign cannot actively pursue a criminal complaint*, they usually ask the person carrying to leave and then call police if they do not. Sadly, some folks don't understand that criminals don't obey laws or civil requests...THAT'S WHAT MAKES THEM CRIMINALS!!!

*Other than simple trespassing - a misdemeanor (if I recall correctly) - and ONLY if the person does not leave when asked.

I have heard repeatedly, that here in Utah State Constitution (Right to bear arms)trumps private property at places like malls, theatres etc. However, most folks who carry tend to respect private property rights.

(Can anyone confirm the above?)

Odd, we care about "them", but they could care less about our lives...

Utah law allows private property owners to forbid guns on their property. I doubt the Utah Constitution would be able to trump property rights in that case. The AOL employees who got fired for having guns in their trunk lost their case, IIRC.

And yes, the shooter was a Bosnian Muslim refugee.

I was listening to Larry Elder out of LA today on my drive home from work. Sounds like a lot of Utahns want a conceal carry permit. Many of his callers were asking about it. However the usual suspects of the msm say if you do get a firearm for home protection you'll probably use it on a family member. The guy was a moslem by the way. I've never understood no one seems to say how we stopped the slaughter of Moslems in the Balkans. No other moslem country sent troops in. Anybody got an answer for me?

I think a picture would be worth a thousand words.

Since you're so close, can you get out to Trolley Square and take a picture of the sign and post it on your blog?

David, I'll try to get out there ASAP - since it is near Downtown SLC, and I work about 40 miles to the south (usually till 20:00), it might be a bit.

The 'usual suspects' do indeed insist that guns are dangerous to us ordinary folk, saying we're more likely to shoot ourselves, our kids or neighbors than the bad guys. The FBI (no fans of citizens having guns) crime statistics show this to be flat wrong. Ordinary folk with arms beat the bad guys more often than not. And "accidents" are actually few.

By the way, there is only one real "right to cary" state left, Vermont, where no permits are required at all (they seem to get that "shall not be infringed" part).

John Lott got the picture of the sign--it's on his blog.

Vermont is not a true "right to carry" state as the individual counties have laws which circumvent the carrying of firearms. In Kentucky (my home) our state laws prohibit individual cities and counties from overturning the will of the people.
I'd also like to brag that we have the best concealed carry law (currently) in the land. You may carry openly without a permit or easily obtain a permit after taking an 8 hour class.
